Moment Surf Co. Collab

Moment Surf Co Abel Collab, Sealion

As part of the new PNW Artist line from Moment Surf Co. in Pacific City, OR, I was asked to create something that represented a favorite moment as a surfer in the PNW.  This sealion poking it’s head out of the water is just that.  When one pops up right next to you with that classic goofy smirk, you can’t help but laugh at them.  It might be kind of a nervous laugh of relief that what popped up wasn’t one of the men in grey suits.  The Sealion graphic is available on hats, T’s, Hoodies and a tank. Grab them over at

From the Moment blog:

“We are very proud to present our collaboration series called “From Summit to Sea”. It’s a partnership with several of our favorite Northwest Artists to celebrate the beauty of our home and the moments we enjoy here. From the peaks of the Coast Range to the rugged shoreline of the Pacific, we believe it’s like no other place on earth. It is also our opportunity to raise awareness of how what happens as far away as the mountains, eventually will end up at the ocean.”  Read More…Moment Surf Co Abel Collab, Sealion HatMoment Surf Co Abel Collab, Sealion Hoodie

New Screen Print “Humpy”

Humpy Whale screen print by Erik Abel

Here’s our latest print. “Humpy” the Humpback Whale is an 18×24 inch, 2-color screen print on French Paper’s recycled Speckletone paper. Complete with little flecks and specks of organic goodness to bring it all down to earth. You may be saying “I see 3 colors not 2!”  Well you’re correct.  Except, that small patch of metallic isn’t screen printed, it’s hand stamped using a light golden ink that was made with real gold from Mr. T’s chains… I think.  Just a little something that adds to the value and uniqueness of this underwater beast.

And the greatest thing is, there are only 50 of these on planet earth. Signed and numbered and printed right here in Oregon by Fairweather Press.

Grab one HERE.

World Surfing Reserve Prints for Save the

World Surfing Reserve Prints by Erik Abel

Artist Erik Abel has designed a series of prints featuring famed global surf breaks to benefit coastal conservation nonprofit Save The Waves.

Abel, who is an Artist Ambassador for Save The Waves, designed a series of prints commemorating the four most recent World Surf Reserves that Save The Waves has protected through their programs. Each print features an iconic symbol of the location, honoring both the break and local culture.

The World Reserves Program (WSR) is designed to identify, designate, and preserve outstanding waves, surf zones, and surrounding environments throughout the world. Save The Waves has partnered with local communities to implement seven WSRs to date. By creating these WSRs, Save The Waves is able to support the protection of key environmental, cultural, economic, and community attributes of surfing areas.

The vibrant 12”x18” prints are printed on premium 80# stock paper that is FSC-Certified and acid-free. They are available for sale at for $20 each or $70 for the set, with sales benefitting Save The Waves’ ongoing conservation work.

“Save The Waves is one of the most effective organizations out there, “says Abel of his nonprofit partner. “The work they do towards conserving these legendary spots is critical and long lasting. I’m honored my art can raise funds for such a great cause.”

In addition to designing these prints, Abel is the artist behind Save The Waves’ 2015 Life Is A Wave artwork, their Lobos Por Siempre campaign swag, and 2013 Patagonia Cause T-shirt.

One of our favorite nonprofits, Save the Waves, asked me to create the artwork for their annual Life Is A Wave fundraiser. Save the Waves hosts this event each June to raise money for their programs, protecting surf spots and educating local communities and surfers on the social and environmental issues that effect waves and coastlines around the world.

To further our support for their programs, we’re launching a Limited Timed Edition, 18″x24″ print featuring the 2015 Life Is A Wave artwork .  These are hand signed, fine art prints and will only be available in our store through June 30, 2015.  50% of sales will be donated to Save the Waves.

If your in San Francisco, make sure to check out this awesome event in person and have a chance to bid on the one-of-a-kind print on FSC-Certified wood of the 2015 Life Is A Wave artwork.

Artwork for the 2014 Reef Hawaiian Pro

2014 Reef Pro art by Erik Abel

I’m stoked Reef asked me to create the artwork for the 2014 Reef Hawaiian Pro, the first event of the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing.

You may recall the artwork I did for the 2011 Reef Hawaiian Pro.

We’ll be headed out to the North Shore for the event November 12-23 and I’ll be live painting on the beach.  The painting is going to be raffled off with proceeds going towards our upcoming Abel Arts Collective project with local Oahu Non-profits, Pangea Seed and Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii.

Looking foreword to some big warm tubes…

Launching Abel Design Co. at Westedge Design Fair

Abel Design Co. Water Clock

Yes, the day of reckoning is finally here.  After much blood, sweat, and tears (Tears are all from the wife of course) we’re proud to announce the launch of our newest endeavor, Abel Design Company.  In the never ending quest for challenge and expression in my art, I’ve decided to dive into the world of product design, home decor, and sculptural art.  While a departure from the wave scenes and surf art you are used to, this new realm let’s me branch out into other areas of inspiration and push the boundaries of my creativity.

Please join us at West Edge Design Fair, October 16-19th in Santa Monica, CA for the official launch of Abel Design Co. and to check out all the stuff that’s been giving me anxiety attacks for the last several months.  This game ain’t easy.
